How well do children like yours do at the schools you are considering? The Good Schools Guide's detailed, in-depth exam analysis PDFs don't just show the number of passes, or how well boys do compared to girls, but how well children of different abilities do - including the very brightest, the least able and those with special needs - and lay bare the school's performance in individual subjects.

 To provide a quick indication of a school's performance, we have developed a series of indicators:

All indicators follow a similar pattern:

The red area denotes values that we consider less than ideal
The green area denotes values that please us
The white area denotes values that seem satisfactory to us 

To show how schools perform in individual subjects, we have developed a series of charts to lay bare individual subject performance. This typical example is for an independent school in the home counties (pink for girls and blue for boys):

Wow factor profile

Bars which rise above the line at 50 indicate subjects that are, in our estimation, well taught. The school seems to focus on the softer subjects and to do well at them. Results in the sciences and languages are less comforting.
