I always believed that boys did better in single-sex schools and girls in co-ed, but a report coming out in next months Economic Journal, contradicts this. I have my boys in single-sex, maybe they should go into co-ed. Anyone with any thoughts?

Today, there are far more single-sex schools for girls in the UK than there are for boys, which may be an indication. It's a complex issue and there are all sorts of research findings out there which come to a variety of conclusions. Girls' schools do free girls from the pressure to conform to stereotypes and there is evidence that more girls in girls-only schools study the hard sciences than is the case in co-ed schools. We would also argue that girls in girls' schools are more likely to learn to take risks - and consequently feel comfortable taking risks in adult life. After all, there is no hiding behind the boys in a girls' school - girls have to learn to lead and make their own decisions. See http://www.gsa.uk.com/why-a-girls-school/
