Children generally arrive after three or four previous school placements have broken down. They will be rigorously assessed, including for their potential impact upon the other pupils. A fair proportion will be turned down on this basis, but 40 per cent of the intake has a secondary diagnosis of autism, and school says the behaviour is often the result of ASD which hasn’t been dealt with. ‘If we take a child we are 99 per cent sure we can be successful’.
