Special Education Needs Survey

SEN Statement

The Special Educational Needs Department is one of the biggest strengths of Terra Nova School. Terra Nova is well known for its excellent Special Educational Needs Department, always ensuring that the children under their care achieve the highest possible standards and enter the school of their choice at the end of either year 6 or year 8.

The Centre
The school has a dedicated Learning Resources Centre, fully equipped with a wealth of assessment and teaching resources. Assessment resources include:

• CAT4 (which all children do in years 3, 5 and 7)
• NFER Nelson Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning Series (all children complete these on entry to the school)
• The British Picture Vocabulary Scale (II)
• The Dyslexia Portfolio (GL Assessment)
• The York Assessment of Reading Age
• A wide variety of maths assessment resources.

We use a wide variety of teaching resources, enabling us to tailor the learning of all of our pupils. Every pupil enjoys a totally bespoke approach incorporating different styles of learning, ICT and written work, all of which are designed to accelerate their progress.

Understanding the road risks in your local area

As many of us do, AXA Insurance and Road Safety Analysis believe that one child casualty on Britain’s roads is too much.

The data is presented by local area in order to aid the understanding of risk – it’s not just about killed or seriously injured, but about any incident reported to the police. Although road safety issues may arise due to a myriad of different reasons including proximity to busy roads and local speed limits, schools play a pivotal role in mitigating these risks by investing time in road safety education programmes.
