Special Education Needs Survey

SEN Statement

We cater for pupils with specialist needs (eg dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, mild speech and language difficulties, autistic spectrum disorders and general learning difficulties). We offer small classes and extra nurturing and support to all our pupils.

Our curriculum offers a creative, multi sensory approach including specialist teaching of motor skills, social, communication skills, emotional intelligence and citizenship skills as well as delivering every area of the National Curriculum including swimming and sport.

All pupils work to achieve challenging but realistic targets from a carefully planned Individual Education Plan. We work closely with parents to encourage pupils to develop their strengths and develop greater confidence and increased self esteem.

Pupils with Statements of Special Educational Needs are considered at the discretion of the Headteacher. All pupils are required to complete a taster period before an offer of a school place is made.

My Son has recently joined Birtley House and even in such a short time the progress he is making is great. I am really pleased with the school and he has settled in very well.

The best decision we ever made was to move our son to Birtley House.

My son has been at Birtley House for 8 months now and in that time his maths age has increased by 2 years!!!!! His reading is above average and his writing (which is his weaker subject) has also improved greatly. The 1:1 attention he gets has been such a benefit. Not only that but his confidence has grown too. Anyone thinking of moving their child should take a look at Birtley House, it's the best decision we ever made.

Understanding the road risks in your local area

As many of us do, AXA Insurance and Road Safety Analysis believe that one child casualty on Britain’s roads is too much.

The data is presented by local area in order to aid the understanding of risk – it’s not just about killed or seriously injured, but about any incident reported to the police. Although road safety issues may arise due to a myriad of different reasons including proximity to busy roads and local speed limits, schools play a pivotal role in mitigating these risks by investing time in road safety education programmes.
