Which school is best for your child?
Most parents who use The Good Schools Guide Education Consultants opt for this service. Most want help in finding the best schools for their children. But we can help in any number of ways.
What is it?
Many parents like to plan ahead for their child’s education and ask us to help select possible schools. Some start when they are expecting their first child. Some UK based parents are unfamiliar with UK education and need us to steer them through, with the independent view and inside knowledge that only we can offer. Some have a child with a particular aptitude or ability. Whatever your requirements, we can help you in your search for the best possible schools.
However, you may need help and advice for other reasons. Perhaps your child is being bullied and you want to move him fast. Or you want support in tackling his school over a problem they are not dealing with properly. Perhaps your child is simply not getting taught well enough? Perhaps you could move anywhere and don’t know where to start looking. Perhaps you have one child settled at school but the other needs something very different. The Good Schools Guide Classic Service is whatever parents need it to be.
We try to keep our fees as low as possible and level of fee is based on the amount of time a consultant needs to give the best possible service to each family. Therefore, this service is best suited to:
- UK-based families with one or two children and no special circumstances
- New parents planning primary education from scratch
- UK families based here or overseas, who are familiar with UK education, but who need help with finding an appropriate school for their child.
- Families where the child speaks, reads and learns in English
How does it work?
Our administrator takes your initial enquiry – whether by email or telephone.
Then – after discussion with the Director of the Service – she matches you with the most appropriate education consultant from our team. At this point the administrator takes your credit card details but no money is taken until you and your consultant have agreed that the educational consultancy should go ahead.
You and your consultant make contact – usually by phone, email or Skype. You tell your consultant exactly what it is you need, you ask any questions you like and she will tell you how she can help. Once you have agreed that the consultancy will go ahead, your consultant will inform the administrator who will alert you that the fee will be deducted from your credit card. She will also send you a confirmation of exactly what you have agreed to.
You may like to meet your consultant face to face and this can usually be arranged. Your consultant will set to work for you, will keep you informed of progress and will respond to any further thoughts or questions you may have. If you have asked for guidance on possible schools, she will let you have the results of her research and you may ask any questions you like until you have the place you seek.
Your education consultant may suggest an assessment. This can serve various purposes but principally:
- i) to help you judge how your child would fare in competitive entrance examinations.
- ii) to help your consultant judge the type of school which will best suit your child.
- Click here for more information about assessments.
Our admin team can answer any questions about assessments: 0203 286 6824 or +44 203 286 6824 from overseas or email: email@example.com.
NB If after meeting your consultant you decide not to proceed with the Classic Service, you will be charged for the meeting – not for the service as a whole. The initial meeting never includes the recommendation of specific schools. The charge for the meeting will be £300.
How much does it cost?
The fee for The Good Schools Guide Classic Service is £950. This covers approximately seven and a half hours of one-to-one consultation, individualised research, report, feedback and follow-up after school visits, offers etc. We can advise you on all aspects of applications and help with everything you may need in order to find the places you want for your children. You will have access, via your consultant, to all the resources, data, in-house knowledge etc exclusive to The Good Schools Guide and its team.
NB We are not rigid and don’t count the minutes. The ‘seven and a half hours’ is a guideline to give you an idea of how we work. A good outcome is what matters to us – as to you.
Occasionally, especially if requirements change, the consultant may exceed the seven and a half hours allowed for the Classic Service. In such cases, she or the administrator will inform you and ask whether you wish her to continue the work. Additional research and consultation is charged at £150 per hour.
NB The majority of Classic Service clients pay the standard fee and no more.
Occasionally, it becomes apparent that considerably more work will be required to meet the family’s needs. This can happen if family circumstances change, if there is a sudden urgent need, if more locations become desirable, if a child is diagnosed with a special need or for any number of other reasons. In such cases, clients sometimes choose to upgrade to The Good Schools Guide Premier Service.
