In partnership with The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), we are trialling a campaign to see if saying Thank You to schools and teachers increases their interest in putting more students forward for apprenticeships.
We would be delighted if you felt able to share the message below, or a version of it, with your current apprentices, or those who have recently completed an apprenticeship with you.
Thank you in advance for your help and, if you have any queries at all, please do get in touch firstname.lastname@example.org
How the campaign works
To help us spread thanks - please copy and paste this letter to your apprentices
To raise the profile and value of apprenticeships, we are taking part in a campaign to say ‘Thank You’ to schools, teachers and careers advisers who have helped to educate and guide our apprentices.
So if you would like to give a little thank you gift (a few nice words) to a school, teacher or careers advisor for their help and advice – and do just bin this email if you don’t – please go to www.goodschoolsguide.co.uk/celebrate and then navigate to your relevant school page. Click on the ‘Say Thank You’ button on the right towards the bottom of the page just under the ‘Login for my Schools’ and ‘Login for Compare’ buttons and please fill in the short form which appears. That’s all you need to do – and you can do it as many times as you like. Please enter our name (your employer!) and this will help the schools and teachers know where you are now.
The form your apprentices will see:
This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.
Please fill in the fields below, which we will transform into a letter of thanks from you to them.
School (autofilled by us)
School email address (ditto)
Teacher: (leave blank if you want to thank the school as a whole)
Title (Mr/Mrs etc)
Your name (first name + last name, or whatever the school will recognise)
Years you were there (from – to)
Your current job title
Town/City (where you work)
Your personal message (can be left blank but, if you can, think of a few words that will bring a smile.)
I would be happy to visit and talk about my job [Y/N]
The finished email from your apprentices to their careers advisers:
A message of thanks
I am now a/an [Your job title] at [Employer] in [Town/City], and I’d like to say Thank You for helping me to get here.
[Their personal message].
If [I or] my employer can do something concrete for your current pupils, please [tell [us/them] how [we/they] might help]*.

Suggestions. This is the first time that we have organised a round of thanks, and it is only on a small scale. We would love to know what we might do differently or better, and what sort of help you would like your alumnus or their employer to offer to you. Please tick the boxes you like the idea of, and/or use the free text box at the end.
Would you like something nicer than our email?
A certificate of thanks from the employer?
A photograph of your alumnus inscribed with thanks?
A video message?
Would you like:
A visit from your alumnus to talk to current pupils?
A visit from their employers?
A visit to their employers?
An offer of work experience for a student?
Work experience for a teacher?
Sponsorship for something relevant to the employer?
What else would you like to tell us or to suggest? [free text ]
We will send replies to alumni as soon as we receive them, and we will do our best make your other wishes come true.
Thank you for helping us,

We check the accumulated data daily for spam or unpleasant messages, and use the apprentice data in mailmerge to send the email to the school or the teacher c/o the school.
Similarly, we send replies to apprentices to thank them for joining in.
Then we’ll see what happens and will take it from there.
