Career Interventions cover a multitude of psychological tests, character analysis and mentoring. Many people also call these programmes Personal Development Programmes. PDPs are the tools that a good careers advisor can use to help you work out what you like doing, discover how you think, work and perhaps your personality. These programmes can also help you define your strengths and weaknesses, passions and dreams. Being armed with all of this information will help you when it comes to choosing what next whether looking at Higher Education or when applying for jobs.
What can a school, college or university do to help you on your way to a great career?
Apart from having excellent career staff - essential guides to an unknown land - careers departments should offer lots of Careers Interventions - programmes and opportunities where and through which you can learn about careers including opportunities to experience work, involving real employers or other outside experts.
One key indicator to look for is a CEIAG Quality Award. Schools that hold one of these take careers seriously.
We are setting out to document the individual Careers Interventions that schools use so that parents can have a clear view of what is on offer, and how this compares with other schools.
If you are a parent looking at a school, you will be able to see which Careers Interventions a school uses, and what each of these interventions or programmes offer your child.
If you are a teacher looking to improve careers provision, you will be able to see who is out there offering interventions, what they do, and which other schools use them (so you can ask for their opinions).
