HUNDREDS of children are set to find out tomorrow they have missed out on their first choice of secondary school.
Across England, tens of thousands of children miss out on their first choice of school. Most new schools around the country are either acadmies or free schools, which mean they no longer come under local authority controls.
The Good Schools Guide's state schools expert, Elizabeth Coatman, said: "Whilst the local authorities are legally obliged to provide every child with a school place, they no longer have ultimate control over the creation of schools. The Government has halted the establishing of new council-run schools, leaving local authorities dependent on outside bodies to establish new academies or free schools in their area." Read more
