Melbourne and Victoria schools, AustraliaThis is ONLY a snapshot overview of schools in the Melbourne/Victoria  area, with very general info on schools considered (although not always chosen) by expats.

You will not find full-blown GSGI reviews here, yet, because the school evaluation process for Melbourne/Victoria is still underway.

By full write-ups, we mean the reviews that are completely selected, researched, visited and written by our own editors.

As often happens in a Guide written by expats and parents ever on the move, our Melbourne editor had to bow out before she could complete this section..in fact, she completed everything but the actual school write-ups. Until we replace her, we hope these articles and lists of schools will help you with your search.

Below you will find contact details and VERY brief non-comittal information for the Melbourne/Victoria schools, perhaps enough to get you started, but probably not enough for you to make a decision without more research.

NOTE: The unusual situation in Australia is that there are many, many outstanding schools. They are very difficult for expats to get into (because they are so well filled by local Australians), but not impossible. As of this writing, we know of no strictly international schools in Melbourne.

  • Where to find a state grammar school

Identifying and locating grammar schools. Grammar schools are located in 36 English local authorities. Almost half of these are considered 'selective authorities' (eg Kent and Buckinghamshire), where around one in five local children are selected for grammar school entry based on ability. The others are areas such as Barnet or Kingston, with only a few grammar schools.
