Jim Doherty

Since 2023, Jim Doherty, is executive president of Ermitage Education Group, which owns the school, while each school-within-a-school (IB, Lycée, French section) has its own head in charge of daily operations.

Entrance

A school in high demand and with a waiting list, although less so for the expanding IB programme. As always, never despair - slots can become available unexpectedly due to the global nature of the school population.

Learning support & SEN

Whereas SEN cases were once considered on a case-by-case basis in a bit of a haphazard way, a co-ordinator now assists pupils and parents, as well as helping teachers. Mild cases of eg dyslexia are managed accordingly, with additional support

Language support

Each school offers an approach to language support. In primary, for instance, pupils with English as a second language will be on a 60-40 per cent track with two levels within that track. The native speakers will be in a 50-50 per cent path. In the

Sport

Sports very much on the agenda, be it as a compulsory or optional activity (some free, others fee paying). The choices are immense, almost dizzying, some more costly than others. Budding equestrians will certainly feel at home in Maisons-Lafitte, due

Pastoral care, inclusivity & discipline

School says the only candidates excluded are those that don’t want to work and who create discipline issues eg bullying, which has landed students anything from a fortnight to permanent. This zero-tolerance policy and reactivity leads to a wholesome

Classroom & community

A varied, easy-going international community, but not naturally cohesive due to the different sites for the school and the fact that many students travel up to an hour to come here (so hanging outside the school gates is not an extended affair).
