What the school says...
Founded in 1344, Bablake School moved to its present urban site, set in 11 acres, approximately a mile from the city centre, with 40 acres of playing fields nearby, in 1890. Facilities include new science labs, a sports hall, astroturf pitches, swimming pool, theatre and digital language laboratory. There is a separate Junior School and Pre Prep The school has its own weather centre, recognised by the Met Office.
Built on a Christian foundation, we are non-denominational and welcome pupils of all beliefs. Academically strong, our examination results are very good. Drama is a key strength, as is debating in which the school regularly competes on a national level. We experience success at county and regional level in cricket, hockey, netball and rugby. There is keen participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, CCF, including army and RAF units plus a vigorous programme of community service and charity fundraising.

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Headmaster
Since 2020, Andrew Wright, who studied maths and geology at Aberystwyth. He was previously acting head, having originally joined Bablake as deputy head in 2017. Hadn’t realised until he joined that there were family links to the school – ‘My grandfather came here, and I never knew!’ He has been assistant head at John Hampden Grammar School and head of ICT at King Edward VI School Aston.
His appointment was met with universal approval and more than a little sympathy that he had to manage both Covid and a merger with King Henry VIII School (part of the same foundation) which culminated in a last-minute U-turn. Special Education Needs
The Learning Support department has its own room and contains space for individual and small group work to take place. It is well resourced with books, teaching aids and a number of computers. Staff are responsible for monitoring the progress of pupils who experience mild or moderate dyslexia. All have training and good experience of working with pupils with dyslexia. All pupils are screened on entry to Bablake to identify who might have dyslexia and the school works closely with parents and the Dyslexia Institute to give the best possible support and guidance for each individual. High ratings for the Learning Support department overall, which can offer a range of options including in-class help, drop in sessions and specific help for those with autism. All staff are trained to help with specific learning difficulties and the school can accommodate wheelchair users - recent Sixth Former is the world record holder in T34 wheelchair racing.
