Since 2010, Dr Paul Owen MA Phd. Educated Winchester College, then Queen’s College, Cambridge. Married to Gail, with one daughter and two sons, all pupils at the school. He came to Birkdale from Wellington School, Somerset, where he served eight years as deputy head, after 18 years teaching mainly physics, and also as a day housemaster.
An unassuming, genial presence and obviously liked by the boys. Parents describe him as ‘approachable and very down to earth’. He continues to teach physics
Special Education Needs
The Learning Support Department at Birkdale Senior School is organised on a one to one withdrawal system. Pupils are screened in their first term to identify need so that appropriate support can be offered. Support is tailored to an individual's needs and is reviewed regularly Although the main focus is on literacy skills, study and revision skills become increasingly important as a pupil moves through school. However, personal skills, such as organisation, are reinforced at all stages, and particular emphasis is placed on developing and maintaining a positive self image for all pupils. 10-09
