What the school says...
We have a long tradition at St Mary's School, Cambridge of welcoming girls from all faiths, backgrounds and nationalities. Our girls are renowned for the way they care for each other and the world outside. Their happy, friendly self-confidence is evident and their achievements, whether academic, sporting or cultural, are impressive. The most important thing to us is the uniqueness of each girl: each girl is genuinely cared for, known, guided and appreciated, and valued for who she is.
Full and weekly boarding is available for ages 11 to 18. From the Junior School's Reception class, through to the Sixth Form, we offer girls an independent education in a caring Christian environment, within which they can realise their spiritual, intellectual, social and physical potential. ...Read more

What The Good Schools Guide saysNow the only girls’ school left in Cambridge. Founded by Mary Ward, an innovator of education for girls. Instilling self-esteem and confidence is very much an ethos of the school and many parents spoke about it along with the Mary Ward philosophy that they have great belief in. ‘My daughter was very shy when she started but they have brought her out of herself and her confidence now is amazing.’
Since 2007, Charlotte Avery, mid 40s. English degree Oxford, PGCE Cambridge. Taught in various schools, deputy head at Highgate where she oversaw the transition to co-ed. St Mary’s is her first headship. One of triplets, all with Oxbridge degrees. A formidable intellect who is determined to get her point across. Dedicated to girls’ education. Brisk and efficient but also kind and caring. Obviously stands no nonsense....
Special Education Needs
We offer in-house assessment of any pupil who enters the school with an existing educational psychologist's report or whose performance in school raises cause for concern. Pupils who have been identified as requiring extra assistance in literacy, numeracy or other study skills are offered help according to their needs. Some have private lessons in or outside lesson times with a peripatetic dyslexia specialist; others are offered tuition in small groups by members of St Mary's staff. In some cases, pupils may follow a reduced timetable in order to meet their needs. 10-09
