What The Good Schools Guide says..

What the school says...
Everyone who visits Stover School - pupils, parents, staff and guests - recognise that this is a very special place. Perhaps it is our location, in the foothills of Dartmoor, in glorious Devon countryside, just a few miles from the sea, which makes Stover unique. We are a close and warm community, all working towards one goal, the full realisation of our children’s talents, from the early years, right through to young adulthood.
Excellence in teaching, nurturing and encouragement of the pupils lie at the heart of all we do. As a Christian school, we teach boys and girls about the value of moral standards, respect and good standards of behaviour. Our curriculum is at the cutting edge of educational practice; it embraces our research-based learning pedagogy that grows creativity, flexibility, problem-solving, communication, team dynamics and other essential life skills. As a relatively small school we know every pupil; their needs, strengths and learning styles, and this fuels each pupil’s achievements at the school and beyond.
We aim to ensure that every child who joins us enjoys their experience at Stover and looks back on their school days with a sense of pride in their achievements and great affection. We hope pupils leave us with a healthy sense of self-belief and the qualifications that skills that will enable them to take on new challenges, achieve the best they are capable of and grasp new opportunities.
As a Day and Boarding School for boys and girls, we are always open and here to welcome visitors. Please take the opportunity to discover for yourself what we mean by a Stover Education. ...Read more
Thank the school
Parents and pupils often have cause to acknowledge the help and support they have received from their schools, for example in helping in the choice of further education or careers. "Say thank you" allows you to send a quick note of appreciation to the school in general or to an individual teacher.
This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.
Please fill in the fields below, which we will transform into a letter of thanks from you to them.
All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.
What The Good Schools Guide saysAll pupils agree full-heartedly on two things at Stover. Firstly, it’s friendly. And secondly, the food is excellent. We saw long queues of hungry pupils looking forward to the curry of the day. One said, ‘I love Roastie Wednesday and Fishy Friday!’ and apparently lots of pupils happily get dropped off early in time for the boarders' breakfast.
Since 2014, Richard Notman BSc. Studied finance and stats at Birmingham University but soon discovered he was not made to be an auditor. After taking his PGCE in Manchester, he spent the next eight years in inner-city comps before teaching maths at Withington Girls School and then becoming head of maths at Alderley Edge School for Girls. From there he went to Longridge Towers, Northumberland as deputy head, and finally Cundall Manor School, Yorkshire as head teacher before...
