Special Education Needs
Currently the school is providing SEN provision for individuals who experience a wide variety of barriers to learning. These barriers include: mild Asperger’s syndrome; semantic pragmatic disorders; mild dyslexia and dyspraxia; mild and moderate emotional and behavioural difficulties; English not being the students’ first language; and medical related needs, for example spinal muscular atrophy, eating disorders and epilepsy. In addition, the school has very good provisions for physically disabled individuals. There is a lift in each building which has more than one floor and wheelchair access into every building on the school site. Furthermore, the school has provisions in place for ‘gifted and talented’ students. At present we do not have provisions for individuals who experience moderate to severe ADD; ADHD; or moderate to severe learning difficulties; sensory impairments (i.e. severe hearing or visual impairments); or for children whose medical needs are related to cerebral palsy. The SENCO at the school oversees the SEN provisions. The school also employs three learning support assistants and has staff trained in First Aid.
