Cokethorpe is a vibrant, dynamic and stimulating day school for 660 girls and boys aged 4 to 18. It is set in 150 acres of beautiful Oxfordshire parkland, two miles from Witney and ten miles from Oxford. We are a nurturing family inspired by our environment, paying attention to the overall development of our pupils and where those entrusted to our care receive an enriching and varied education, with countless opportunities across the broadest possible range to develop the diverse talents of all our pupils.

Since 2002, Mr Damian Ettinger BA MA PGCE (40s). Educated St Joseph’s College (Beulah Hill), Universities of Manchester and Surrey (theology and philosophy). Previously head of theology and housemaster at Downside and before that at Prior Park College, Bath. Teaches theology up to GCSE and philosophy in the sixth form. Special Education Needs
The Learning Support Department is a resource which exists to strengthen and support learning across the whole ability range. This encompasses a very wide range of issues. As a consequence, our response must be a flexible one which includes a variety of approaches to the varying needs of our pupils. Our role also requires us to support the staff and to disseminate good practice throughout the school. Our main teaching and learning objectives can be summarised as follows: first and foremost we are here to improve the skills of those students who have difficulties acquiring the basics of literacy and numeracy. There is a need to recognise, however, that there comes a time when other needs predominate, and there is a gradual move towards the teaching of basic skills through other, curriculum based tasks. We work on study skills, individual learning styles and highlight strengths and the application of strategies. We look to improve: thinking skills; time management and planning; revision and exam techniques; and knowledge and use of ICT. At a personal level we encourage: self-awareness and self-analysis; organisation; acceptance of constructive criticism; pro-active problem solving and the discussion of issues of importance to the individual.
