Since 2014, John Moule MA. Attended local comprehensive in Telford, won a scholarship to Oxford (Lady Margaret Hall), graduated with a first in history. Plan A was academia, but funding for his PhD into 16th century theology was ‘inexplicably’ turned down and, before he knew it, he found himself at the front of a classroom. A few happy years at Dean Close followed; thence to Stowe as head of history and later senior housemaster, and Bedford, where latterly he spent six years as head.

Mr Moule has seen almost two generations of Radleians through. What’s changed? ‘Any institution moves forward, but we’re still single sex, still full boarding, still wearing gowns.’ Rather esoteric terminology still going strong, too (don’t worry, we’ll translate).
