Special Education Needs
Kells Lane is a mainstream school which caters for a wide-range of pupils with special educational needs. A recent Ofsted inspection praised all members of staff for their inclusive practices. Staff are skilled in preparing and delivering lessons which include the most and least able pupils. Children at school action and school action plus receive individual or small group support from a learning support teacher. Kells Lane is a dyslexia friendly school with a mainstream support base catering for statemented pupils from across Gateshead. Staff in the base hold specialised qualifications in teaching dyslexic pupils. Children receive literacy and numeracy lessons in the base during the morning and join their mainstream classes for curriculum areas during the afternoon.
