Special Education Needs
SEN provision at Cardiff High School is in line with the SEN code of practice and the LEA guidance criteria. Pupils receive a staged approach to help meet their needs which includes a literacy intervention programme, paired learning with Year 12 students and extra literacy and numeracy sessions. A key element of the provision involves learning support assistants who are able to offer in-class support for a variety of lessons in years 7 & 8. The learning support department prides itself on its open-door policy for pupils and teaching staff. There is also close liaison with parents and pastoral staff. The learning support area is available for any pupil at lunchtime with homework and computer clubs. After school sessions are available. Option subjects are offered in years 9, 10 and 11 and these are very popular. At present there are 88 pupils following the learning skills option in year 9 and 65 in Learning Support in KS4. The Cardiff LEA Specific Learning Difficulties Resource Base for 12 Statemented dyslexic pupils is housed in Cardiff High School. More information on this provision is available from Cardiff LEA or the School.
