Donaldson's School

What the school says...

Donaldson's School caters for pupils who are deaf, hearing impaired or have communication difficulties. All pupils have multiple and complex additional support needs. Pupils come from all over Scotland and the north of England, and have full or part-time day or residential places funded by their local authority. Donaldson's School offers primary and secondary placements and accepts pupils at any stage. Classes are taught using a variety of communication methods including British Sign Language (BSL). Pupils are supported by Donaldson's specialist staff team, which includes teachers of the deaf; specialist teachers; speech and language therapists; an occupational therapist and physiotherapist, along with specialist learning support assistants and a residential care team.

All staff work collaboratively on Donaldson's unique policy of inclusive communication which utilises a wide range of approaches to communication based on each pupils individual needs.

The school can also cater for pupils who have additional behavioural, emotional and/or physical needs. A number of Donaldsons pupils have a diagnosed syndrome, are on the autistic spectrum or have other difficulties including severe speech and language difficulties or verbal dyspraxia.
