What the school says...

St Mary's is a co-educational Prep School with its own Kindergarten on site. It is mainly a day school with a flexible boarding facility. Day children can stay from 7.30 am (breakfast club in school) right through to 7.30 pm, by which time they will have done their prep and had supper. Kindergarten can stay till 4 pm.

The new Hamilton Building has been named after the school's founder Mr John Hamilton who founded St. Mary's in 1895 on its current site in Abbey Park. The project has been funded in full by a most generous donation from a charitable trust who want to support the work of St. Mary's School.

Since 2010, Liam Harvey BEd, himself a proud old boy of St Mary’s. Following eight years working in the senior state sector on Merseyside and in North Yorkshire, he took the opportunity to move back to his roots in the Borders as housemaster at Belhaven School before returning to St Mary’s as head. Special Education Needs

At St Mary's, children are initially screened when joining school to identify any particular learning needs. If necessary, support is provided through a 35 minute one-to-one lesson twice a week. These lessons are individually tailored to the particular needs of each pupil. Our Additional Support for Learning Department is staffed by two experienced and appropriately qualified teachers.
