What the school says...

At Newland House, our children are at the centre of everything that we do and we offer an outstanding education to them all. We are a co-educational Prep School for children from ages 3 to 13. We have two classes in our Nursery and then three classes in each year group from Reception to Year 6. In Year 7 and 8 we offer the first two years of the secondary curriculum for children doing 13+ exams.

At our foundation is excellent pastoral care. Our children are happy, engaged and extremely well looked after by a skilful and committed teaching team. Our children feel valued and safe, which means that in lessons they are prepared to take risks with their learning and this is why they make such good progress. Academic rigour is at the core of our curriculum, but our commitment to its breadth offers children vibrant and well-balanced opportunities. To name but a few, in Design and Technology children are given ambitious projects which they have to design and make, in Drama all year groups from our Nursery upwards put on at least one production for parents each year, in Music a large number of ensembles, orchestras and choirs supplement the taught curriculum throughout our Pre-Prep and Prep and in Sport we balance the development of the children’s physical skills with full fixtures schedule during which all of our Prep children compete for the School.

Our community is a strong and vibrant one: we acknowledge the vital role that parents play in their children’s education and work very hard to ensure that they are fully included. Our families do not just see Newland House as a place that educates their children, but rather as an extension of their life.

Ensuring children develop effective learning habits and are engaged in lessons is our priority and this, alongside a bespoke preparatory programme, is why they do so well in the assessments for the senior schools that apply to. Targeted teaching in Maths, English and Reasoning from a team of teachers who know the system extremely well is supplemented by the support and guidance that we offer to parents in what remains a complex and ever-changing process. For senior schools that only offer the 11+ entry point, children leave at the end of Year 6 as well-rounded individuals whose transition to secondary school is seamless one. For those children who sit 13+ exams, our Year 7 and 8 offers them a bespoke and highly pitched programme in small classes, including many opportunities beyond the curriculum such as taking on positions of responsibility as well as working on school and community projects as part of their Personal Development Programme.
