What says..

Perfect, billiard table-esque pitches extend as far as the eye can see. Sport is the tour de force here and fetishized by all, especially rugby and cricket that have – when numbers allow – A-E teams ready to take on all comers at all levels. Days are long (so are holidays) but boys seem to take it in their stride and point out there’s no homework apart from spellings, reading and basic maths until the last two years (when all boys board). What the school says...

Caldicott is a day and boarding country prep school for boys aged 7 – 13 in South Buckinghamshire. Situated in 40 acres of magnificent grounds, we are just 15 miles from Heathrow Airport and 30 minutes from West London, operating a daily return bus service from Chiswick, Brook Green, Notting Hill and the local area. We pride ourselves on our warm community where our pupils are happy and grow into confident all rounders who have the grit and determination to succeed. Caldicott is a special place with a strong community spirit and sense of social responsibility. We encourage teamwork, intellectual curiosity and a love of learning in an atmosphere where creativity flourishes.

We have the reputation as one of the best prep schools in the UK with an excellent record in preparing boys for scholarships and Common Entrance to top UK public schools including Eton, Harrow, Radley and Wellington. We have a strong and dynamic staffroom of dedicated and inspirational teachers and professionals – highly qualified academic teachers, expert sports coaches and musicians and drama specialists. As a result, we have high academic standards and an outstanding record in art, sport, music and drama scholarships, excellent pastoral provision and a wide range of extra-curricular activities in which all boys can take part. Despite this, our philosophy on the field is 'sports for all'; every week we have a mixture of external and House matches, giving every boy the opportunity to play in competitive fixtures week in, week out.

Boarding, compulsory in years 7 and 8 and optional for years 5 and 6, is caring, fun, and an integral part of the school community. Boys live and work together in a friendly, supportive environment, build life-long friendships and develop independence before they go on to their senior schools at 13+.

We endeavour to harness the best of the school’s traditions and values within a forward-looking and innovative approach and within a caring and supportive environment. Senior schools commend us for our well-mannered, considerate, confident boys who have high personal, moral and spiritual values and are striving to become their very best.

Headmaster

Since 2018, Jeremy Banks, previously headmaster of Beachborough School. His mother was a headteacher and having realised relatively young that he too had a way with children, he subsequently did a degree in education studies and geography at Warwick University and an MA in educational leadership (distinction) at Buckingham. Now gently guiding Caldicott, this most traditional of preps, towards the 21st century (school’s first ever head with an active Twitter account). One of his first wins was to completely overhaul the way boys are prepared for pre-test and secondary school interviews, including bringing in external people (cue applause from parents). ‘They bus them off to their Wellington interviews en masse where...
