This mixed-ability school has been on a bumpy ride, but the school’s academic robustness without the pressure cooker ethos is still the school’s big pull. Most get into their chosen school and around five a year win scholarships, both academically and in the arts and sport. Pastoral care has always been the cornerstone of the school – children feel able to approach form teachers and the ‘share’ box (where children can post worries and acts of kindness) is well-used ‘and acted on,’ according to one pupil. What the school says...

Gareth has significant prep school experience having worked entirely in five different prep schools across the South of England. He has a Masters in Education degree from Cambridge University and is also an ISI team and compliance inspector. He is also the Chair of IAPS' Finance Committee and a member of Council.

He joined Gayhurst in September 2016 and it is his second Headship, following on from an eight year stint as Head of Alleyn Court in Southend-on-Sea.

As the father of three daughters, Gareth is a keen family man. He enjoys watching and playing many sports and is an avid fan of Swansea City and the Ospreys.

Since 2016, Gareth Davies BA PGCE MEd (40s). Previously head of Alleyn Court for eight years, before that deputy head at Rose Hill, Alderley, prior to which he taught in various preps (mostly maths). Originating from the Swansea Valley, he studied HR management at the University of Glamorgan, but a free Friday spent in his aunt’s primary school during the last year of his degree lured him into teaching and he’s ‘never looked back.’ PGCE at University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
