What the school says...
The School was established in 1918 and is a charitable trust administered by a Board of Governors. The Headmistress is a member of IAPS. The physical environment is spacious, green and very pleasant. The feel of the School is one of enjoyment, purpose and calm, providing a sense of continuity and security.
Maltman's Green is a school with strong traditions, but above all it has a clear vision for the future. The School provides a varied, stimulating and vital curriculum. The emphasis is on each child achieving the best they can. Excellence is achieved across the curriculum, academic, sporting and creative. Specialist teaching is an important feature of the School, particularly at KS2. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities and all children have access to a good range of pursuits, and competitive success has been achieved in many areas, particularly gymnastics, swimming and music.
The children are taught to think for themselves and become increasingly confident, independent and self-motivated. The environment is friendly, happy and caring. Pastoral care is integral and of a high standard. Respect for the beliefs, cultures and faiths of others is embedded in the School's clear moral framework. Since 2005, Mrs Joanna Pardon MA BSc PGCE (50s). Educated mainly in France, with A levels at Folkestone Grammar School, followed by London University, then a masters in environmental studies (still her passion – Maltman’s is a leading eco school) at Wye College. Has had a varied career teaching in schools including Riddlesworth Hall, Norfolk (history, technology and director of studies), Ashford School, Kent and, prior to landing at Maltman’s, Gateways Prep in Leeds, where she held her first headship. Special Education Needs
The new post of Head of Learning support was created in September 2006. The current post-holder is a qualified educational psychologist who works with a team including a literacy support teacher and a number of assistants. Support is provided for children with physical disabilities and conditions such a dyslexia as well as to girls who need help in consolidating or revisiting certain concepts and aspects of their work. IEP's (individual educational plans) are set up and reviewed in consultation with parents and pupils so that we all work towards the same goals and share strategies. We are keen to be as inclusive as possible. 09-09
