Teachers (good age and gender split, ethnicity less so) are a committed bunch, say parents, and without exception we found their tone kind and encouraging. All took time to go round individual desks to give personal direction: ‘Are you sure you understood that, Amelia – it’s ok to say if not?’ ‘Nice handwriting, Harry.’ Etc. scholars’ club. ‘Brilliant’ music takes place in dedicated, instrument-laden room. Headteacher
Since 2017, Julia Langford BEd (Chester), previously deputy head. Arrived here in 2011 from Hale Prep as head of English, having worked in a state school before that. Attended Loreto Grammar in Altrincham, with every intention of going into marketing and PR, but ‘dipping a toe in the water made me realise it wasn’t for me’.
Ryleys has always been known as a lovely school, but Mrs Langford came in and gave it an academic boost via the introduction of global perspectives (so children now study a country geographically, historically and through values, culture and art), more practical learning (including an outdoor classroom) and – perhaps most significantly – a greater focus on Eleven-Plus. She has also worked at developing pupils’ independence and getting them to take more risks...

Special Education Needs
The Learning Enhancement department is equipped to deal with a range of special educational needs as required. A qualified dyslexia specialist is employed by the school to meet the needs of those children, and for others, support is given in intervention groups or one-to-one support where necessary by suitably qualified and experienced staff.
