St Hugh’s is proud to be non-selective. Most of the children work their way through the school starting in the nursery. More start at reception, with biggest contingent arriving in year 3 following the ‘state till eight’ mantra. Small class sizes nurture and bring the best out in the children. And it’s the less academic who seem to really thrive. The high fliers really will fly here but many parents spoke of the less able ‘flourishing’. Sport is king at this school despite the teams having to travel some distance to enjoy competitive matches. Headmaster

Since 2019, Jeremy Wyld – his first headship. Another head arriving to a baptism of fire with the Covid lockdowns to deal with. He found his feet fast and handled lockdowns well. French degree from Leicester followed by a PGCE in modern languages. Headed to Lincolnshire after spending 12 years at Sevenoaks in Kent where he rose to boarding housemaster, followed by Holmewood House as deputy head, before heading north to take on headship here. Pastoral care and sports coaching have also been on his remit previously, and obviously now as well.
