What The Good Schools Guide says..
Project-based learning allows differentiation for a wide ability span. School refusers and the demand-avoidant start here as it doesn’t feel like school; for example a recent topic, ‘animals of the sea’, gave flexibility of child enquiry within a framework of literacy and maths without making obvious demands. A parent told how their child is starting to draw and also to tell them about the drawing while beginning to use letters: ‘Drawing a fire truck, “I need a cloud and a helicopter”, then drawing ‘F’ for fire engine – now sounds and speech much improved.’

What The Good Schools Guide says
Headteacher
Since 2003 Jessica Duemler, BSc in Special Needs & Early Childhood with a minor in Environmental Education. Seated in a converted closet under the stage in a captain’s chair at an antique desk with globe and plants, Duemler offers visitors a chat and a seat on her chaise longue. A couple on their initial visit described being taken aback by the building but then, ‘As we entered the headteacher’s room a little boy popped in unannounced and she so kindly answered his questions that he went away perfectly happy and I thought, this is where my son needs to be.’
Duemler’s view is that ‘Everyone who works in special educational needs has traits’, alongside a passion and devotion to those they help. Duemler describes school as ‘incredibly structured but unregimented’....
