What the school says...

Elizabeth College Junior School at Acorn House (aged 4+ to 7) and Beechwood (7 to 11), combined with the Acorn House Pre-school (2 to 5) provide an excellent all round preparatory education for boys and girls. Working in close partnership with parents, we aim to create a secure and caring environment in which pupils have the best educational opportunities and are nurtured to develop their individual talents with appropriate stretch and challenge. Pupils’ achievements, whether academic, cultural or sporting, are recognised and celebrated through class discussions, assemblies, displays of work and less formally through many everyday activities.

In addition to the more academic subjects, pupils are encouraged to develop their interests and abilities in music, drama, art and physical education. There is an extensive programme of trips and visits that allow children to explore and engage with their local environment and community.

Special Education Needs

We aim to meet the needs of all our pupils. Those who are gifted and talented are given many opportunities, both individually and as part of a group, to extend and develop their skills. Some children benefit from individual programmes, but competitions, sporting events, concerts, clubs and activities provide an additional layer of opportunity. For children with specific learning difficulties, support is readily available. We aim to identify specific needs early and provide intervention via Learning Support. At Acorn House, ReadWriteInc. ‘hotseating’ and individual numeracy support aims to develop basic skills. At Beechwood, Learning Support is staffed by qualified teachers, who work alongside class teachers to support pupils and implement an individually tailored programme to meet individual needs.
