What The Good Schools Guide says
Head
Since 2013, Clare Bruce MA PGCE, previously head of Derby Grammar Junior School. Educated at Hutchesons’ Grammar School, Glasgow, read English at St Andrews. Switched from McDonald’s graduate scheme to PGCE at Loughborough upon realising staff training was her favourite bit. Perhaps it was written in the stars, she concedes - both parents were teachers.
Strategic, professional and welcoming. Parents we spoke to felt it was a ‘good thing’ they hadn’t needed much, if any, interaction with her, ‘but you see her at the gates, events and parents’ evenings and she knows all the children.’ They like that she’s ‘firm but fair, the children know where they stand.’ ‘Not one to sugar-coat, and that kind of honesty is what you need in a head.’
