Since 2016, Ryan Kilby, who joined the school in 2012 as senior teacher, then deputy head before taking over the headship. His experience includes five years in mainstream followed by roles in student support services and a pupil referral unit in Leicestershire.
Mid-30s, personable and popular with staff and parents alike, Kilby is an evangelist for attachment and trauma awareness, and the use of emotion coaching as a whole school approach that helps children to understand, articulate and regulate their emotions at school and at home. The approach aims to prepare for and then to anticipate problems and deal with them before they occur via modelling and teaching the appropriate response.
