The school day is long. The library is open from 7.30am till 6pm, lessons start at 8.30am and on some days sports and enrichment activities continue till 6pm. Since 2021, Alex Crossman MA (Oxon) MSc.Econs FRSA FCCT , previously head of The Charter School East Dulwich, one of London’s most successful free schools. He grew up in Chelmsley Wood in Solihull, attending ‘a series of universally failing schools’ before reading modern history and economics at Oxford and doing a master’s in international politics at the LSE.
He had a brief stint as a financial journalist, then went into investment banking at Deutsche Bank, where he became managing director with global responsibility for strategy and communications. At the age of 38 he wanted to do ‘something more worthwhile’ and switched to education, initially working as a senior executive at GEMS Education, the international education company. ‘But I quickly realised I wanted to be involved at the coalface,’ he says....
