Chances to shine abound. ‘If you audition for a part and you don’t get it, you know there’ll always be another opportunity,’ a level-headed teenager told us. ‘It’s such a professional environment,’ a sixth former told us, ‘and the work ethic you’re taught to have is…

What the school says...

ArtsEd is an exceptional independent school, where the performing arts sit at the heart of an outstanding education. Pupils immerse themselves in high-calibre academic study whilst developing their talent and their passion for performance.
Our successful balance of vocational and academic classes instils in our pupils a deep-seated confidence and a broad range of skills, giving them the scope, at 16 or 18+, to pursue a path that’s right for them.
Founded 100 years ago by two ground-breaking educationalists, Grace Cone and Olive Ripman, our ethos remains true to their vision: to provide a broad and balanced education stretching pupils to achieve both their academic and artistic potential.

What The Good Schools Guide says

Since 2012, Adrian Blake (40s) BEd MAPgDip NPQH. Trained as an actor and worked professionally before finding he liked education, and retraining. Started his career as lecturer in performing arts at North East Surrey College of Technology, followed by a spell as director of thinking and learning and advanced skills teacher at Greenshaw High School. Moved to Lambeth Academy to become assistant principal, then came to ArtsEd in 2009, initially as director of teaching and learning. This background may help explain his consummate ease with modern education and its jargon – unusual in a performing arts school head. A fast-talking enthusiast, who seems genuinely to know the names of every single ArtsEd pupil past and present. Still teaches 15 periods a week (extracurricular martial arts included), and greatly liked by parents and pupils alike....

Please note: Independent schools frequently offer IGCSEs or other qualifications alongside or as an alternative to GCSE. The DfE does not record performance data for these exams so independent school GCSE data is frequently misleading; parents should check the results with the schools.
