Housed in a well-kept building, the prep school has its own garden and a play area known as ‘the rough patch’, with a lime green buddy bench suggested by the pupils themselves. We visited on a sunny May afternoon and the place buzzed with energy – nursery children trooping into their ballet lesson in pale blue tutus, pupils chatting animatedly in the library and others scrambling across the adventure playground...

Badminton School Prep is a warm and friendly school where the girls have an excellent academic grounding and lots of opportunities to speak languages, participate in music and enjoy a variety of sports. Girls here enjoy lots of outdoor play in the extensive adventure playground and on Friday afternoons enjoy a range of activities including horse-riding, orienteering and street dance which change on a termly basis. There are many opportunities for music, drama and dance performance and a range of clubs and activities which take place during break times, lunch and after school. Since 2021, Heidi Welch MSc PGCE, previously assistant head of Bristol Grammar School. Educated at Watford Grammar School for Girls and Loughborough University, where she read sport and exercise science. Worked as a personal fitness trainer for five years and set up her own company before doing her teacher training at the University of Warwick. A vastly experienced head, she has taught at Alderley Edge School for Girls and Stockport Grammar School, was head of juniors at Norman Court Prep School and head of juniors and pre-prep at Walhampton. She’s a member of Badminton’s senior leadership team and works closely with the senior school head.
