We enjoyed a dissection session with year 6, inflating pigs’ lungs and scrutinising lambs’ hearts. Excellent teaching explained the anatomical mechanisms at work in an age-appropriate way – engaged pupils with no squeamish reactions. At the end of the school day a welcome awaits boarders around the large table in the kitchen – a nice touch. Communal areas include a fox-themed snug with games and toys...

Since 2015 Laura Turner BA MEd (late 30s), who joined the school as reception teacher then became director of studies and head of pre-prep. BA in education from Northumbria University and an MA in early education and leadership from Teesside University. Some years spent at former independent Polam Hall Darlington, with responsibilities for mathematics, art and computing.
