What the school says...

BARNARD Castle School is a happy, thriving HMC day and boarding school. There are 501 pupils in the Senior School, of whom 149 are boarders and enjoy a full boarding programme, rated 'Excellent' by ISI in 2011 (use link above to read the full inspection report). The Preparatory School comprises a Pre-Prep Department for pupils between the ages of 4 and 7 and has 201 pupils between the ages of 7 and 11, of whom 9 are boarders. The Preparatory School is located on an adjacent site and operates separately on a day-to-day basis while enjoying the mutual benefits of extensive modern resources and expertise as well as a diverse, robust curriculum and an outstanding range of extra-curricular activities.

The School is situated in its own extensive grounds on the outskirts of an historic market town, recently noted as being the safest in England, in an area of outstanding beauty. The School is well resourced and enjoys an enviable reputation for its pupils achievements on a broad variety of fronts.

We believe that all our children have something to offer, and we are driven by a desire to find areas where each of them can excel. Every term we offer an extensive programme of over 100 extra-curricular activities to which all members of the Common Room contribute.

The Prep School has benefitted from an extensive development of 3 new classrooms and a science block whilst the Senior School is due to open its new Sixth Form Centre in Autumn 2015.

What the parents say...

Barnard Castle School has had a very positive effect on the lives of both or our children, and as parents we also feel very included in a supportive community that helps to build confidence and encourages children to try their best in everything that they do. The school ethos promotes a very high standard of behaviour and respect for others with a genuine, warm friendly atmosphere. Our experience is that teaching is of a high standard with an open door policy for parents, resulting in excellent communication and an understanding of each pupil as an individual. The grounds are outstanding, and pupils are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of sports, as well as an extensive choice of extra curricular activities which can only enhance their school experience. The mixture of boarding and day, British and International pupils results in well rounded, open minded young people who are well prepared for their next step in life.

Thank the school

Parents and pupils often have cause to acknowledge the help and support they have received from their schools, for example in helping in the choice of further education or careers. "Say thank you" allows you to send a quick note of appreciation to the school in general or to an individual teacher.

This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.

Please fill in the fields below, which we will transform into a letter of thanks from you to them.

Leave blank if you want to thank the school as a whole

Years you were there

Can be left blank but, if you can, think of a few words that will bring a smile.
