Excitingly, as befits the Greenwich location, a handful of the top physicists are invited to study astronomy GCSE, alongside similarly selected state school pupils. Co-curricular flourishes: eco week saw year 6, from the junior school, and year 13 geographers working together to experience what life is like for slum dwellers. The annual Iron House race sees 40 athletes from across the school, including staff, showing their stamina in Greenwich Park, including the gruelling near-vertical climb to the top. Since 2022, Natalie Argile MSc, PGCE, previously deputy and then acting head. After completing a degree and master's in chemistry at Newcastle, Mrs Argile stayed on for her first teaching post before moving south to take up science posts of increasing seniority in Kent grammar schools. She has been at Blackheath High School since 2015 and is a advocate for girls' only education, saying recently, 'The main thing we do is actively create opportunities to allow girls to break down the gender stereotypes.'
Entrance
There are 60 places at the 11+ stage and most recently there were around 190 applications. No guaranteed place for junior school pupils, but all year 6 girls take the entrance exam in maths, English and non-verbal reasoning. Senior staff interviews all candidates.
