Entrance

Two entrance points, at 4+ (non-assessed) and 7+ (assessed). At 4+, ballot is drawn in presence of head, chair of governors, one of the school’s accountants and registrar, so grovelling is pointless. Twenty-two girls accepted from a jungle of 400 applicants. Unsuccessful candidates kept on the waiting list for 7+, when another 40 are accepted. The 7+ assessment involves maths investigations, an open-ended discussion requiring critical thinking, an oral comprehension and story writing. School looks at how girls respond and focus. Girls’ reactions to school tour also noted. Tutoring is futile, as girls are chosen for their curiosity, sparkle, and willingness to have a go, not on the spouting of accumulated knowledge. Special Education Needs

Our well resourced Learning Enrichment Department supports children with mild learning difficulties and also those who find accessing the curriculum challenging in relation to their peers. Additionally, the most able girls are extended in English and Maths. The children are mainly taught out of the classroom in specialist rooms, in small groups.
