What the school says...

Cargilfield School is a family friendly independent day and boarding prep school in Edinburgh for girls and boys aged 3 to 13 and has been educating and inspiring children since 1873. We are nestled within 13 acres of private grounds.

At Cargilfield, we offer a comprehensive education, featuring small class sizes capped at 18 pupils and a tailored teaching approach. Our specialised subject teachers uphold high academic standards, while daily sports, over 70 clubs and outdoor adventures enrich the children’s lives. With daily art, drama, music and design technology sessions, Cargilfield provides a well-rounded education.

Beyond the classroom, Cargilfield is a lively school with extended school days, less homework, extensive extracurricular offerings, and a strong pastoral care programme.

We offer weekly and flexible boarding opportunities.

We offer school bus services from across Edinburgh, Midlothian, Perth, Kinross and Fife.

A school where learning is an everyday adventure.

Very approachable and brilliant at energising everybody.’ He and his wife Sarah decided to return to her Scottish roots with their three children, partly because of the more balanced pace of life and partly because ‘Cargilfield is so highly regarded by the big schools down south’.

Entrance

Every child is assessed to some degree, even at nursery level, although it is ‘age appropriate’. It’s not selective, apparently, but more to check that they school can support their needs. But if...
