Parents comment on how teachers ‘really use children’s strengths to make them feel good about themselves’ and are ‘super supportive’ in helping pupils pursue new interests at or outside school. Art room is gorgeous, ‘a true artist’s studio’ adored by pupils, with dynamic teaching that encourages them to produce some ‘mind-boggling art’. We loved the papier-mâché sharks and dragons suspended from the ceiling, and rather coveted some customised tote bags inspired by Klimt. Our guides were clearly in their element there, explaining that rubbers are forbidden….

Since the school opened in 2010, Mrs Angela Barr. Studied geography and education at Christchurch College, Kent University. Head of lower school at Pembridge Hall, another Alpha Plus school, when she was asked to open Chepstow, initially as a pre-prep. Handprints of the 24 students who started with her are proudly displayed in her office, alongside a chalkboard signed by all the pupils present when the school expanded up to year 6 in 2014. Values the professional network and support that comes with being part of Alpha Plus, which provided welcome stability and reassurance during the pandemic; parents also appreciate how she draws on the group’s strengths but ‘always puts Chepstow first’.

Special Education Needs
We consider all children for admission to the school who have the ability and aptitude to access an academic curriculum. Pupils who have SEND and are suited to the curriculum are welcome provided that we have the appropriate resources and facilities to provide them with the support that they require.
