Small class sizes, individual approach and, most of all, strong and trusting relationships uphold academic rigour. Without doubt, a far cry from your traditional public school with ancient traditions, stuffy uniforms and hierarchical structures. Sixth form is more akin to the university model. Highly qualified teaching body: many have doctorates and top degrees but wear them lightly – no-one takes themselves too seriously. Since 2022, Patrick Horne BEd (Nottingham Trent), previously deputy head of British International School in Dubai, then principal of British international schools in Shanghai and Abu Dhabi (both in Nord Anglia portfolio which acquired d’Overbroeck’s in 2021). Born in Kenya to parents in international education, then moved to Singapore for his prep. A teaching career abroad might have been an obvious choice but initially opted to study computer science instead. Disappointed in the course, took a last-minute posting to Kamuzu Academy in Malawi when an Eton gappie was a no-show. On his return, trained as a maths teacher with first positions at King Edward Grammar and Harrogate Grammar before climbing the management ladder overseas.

Special Education Needs
We have considerable experience over the years of teaching students with dyslexia and other mild learning difficulties, and we have a strong track record of success in this area. Our small classes, flexible teaching methods and strong focus on meeting individual needs makes this a positive, confidence-building environment with a clear emphasis on identifying strengths and building on them. Students quickly realise that we are always ready to understand and address their particular needs and to help them find strategies that work for them - without in any way singling them out or making them feel self-conscious.
