Headmaster
Since 2016, Mike Kane MA (English lit, Aberdeen) PGDE. Hails from Belfast and taught in Aberdeen and Elgin before becoming an English teacher at Stewart’s Melville College. Worked his way up to head of upper school before taking the helm at the junior school – an unusual step, he acknowledges, but says he was attracted by the size of the junior school and believes his senior school know-how has been invaluable in moulding the junior programme. He recalls that, like Michael Corleone in his favourite film ‘The Godfather’, every time he thought he might leave ESMS ‘they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse’. Not that it’s hard to stay, he says, as he has ‘always agreed with the tone of the place – it has all the expectations and traditions a good school...
