Since 1965, Mr Nick Clappy BA Social Sciences, (sixties) With pony tail, plaited beard and beads, Mr Clappy is hardly your typical head. ‘Hey! Just call me Nick,’ he grins. Briefly a Baptist minister in his teens, thence to Rome where he spent some months as a novitiate, he decamped to the Himalayas where he studied with the Maharishi (that one). Inspired by someone he met in Goa, he became a Tibetan monk, then followed Hare Krishna until he fell under the spell of the Rev Sun Myung Moon after, that is, a period with the Manson family. ‘I’ve been around,’ he admits cheerfully, seeing this as ideal preparation for heading a prominent Anglican school in the heart of England. He lives onsite with his partner, Beeswing, and their nine children.
