What the school says...

At Fernhill School, we aim to provide a safe and secure environment where your child can achieve their true potential. We accept both boys and girls from nursery age and they are able to progress through both primary and secondary departments. We provide: small classes, a wide range of activities; excellent results; a beautiful environment; transportation from all major areas in Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire.

The secondary department has classes in all major academic subject.

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Choir school - substantial scholarships and bursaries usually available for choristers.

Since 2014, Dr Laura Murphy BSc PhD PGDE (50s) previously depute head and chemistry teacher here, as well as teacher at Calderglen High School in East Kilbride and Glasgow Academy. Chemistry graduate from Glasgow University, followed by a PhD (sponsored) in catalysis.

Dr Murphy jokes that she took a ‘20-year gap year’ before ‘fulfilling her childhood dream to be a teacher’, previously having a highly successful career as head technology manager with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI). Passionate about the job and the close-knit ‘Fernhill family’, she is very much one of the girls – fun, hard-working, nurturing.
