At lunch, we talked with some girls from year 3 whose ‘best things about the school’ were flapjacks on Wednesdays and ‘golden time’ - 'where we can do drawing'. On the same table was a year 8 boy, hopeful of a place next year at Eton, who was of the outlandish opinion that Foremarke was 'the most rounded school in England'. Foremarke Hall enjoys excellent day and boarding facilities. Since 2011, Richard Merriman, who easily matches his surname as he fizzes along into his late 50s and dresses in tasteful tweed, entirely in keeping with the kind of country school that Foremarke is. Educated in Loughborough, both at the grammar school and the university, he took a multi-faceted teaching degree in PE, sports science and geography.
