What the school says...

The Junior School at Gordonstoun and offers an all-round education for boys and girls from ages 7 to13. Situated on the wonderful 200-acre Gordonstoun campus in the North East of Scotland, Gordonstoun Junior School caters equally for boarders and day pupils and aims to achieve a balance in ethos and atmosphere which is beneficial to all. Flexibility is an important aspect of this, with boarders able to go home on all or some weekends, or stay at school and be part of the full programme. For boarders the ethos is strongly that of a full boarding school. Day pupils are welcome at school at weekends and overnight accommodation can be offered to day pupils if space is available.

The junior pupils share the Gordonstoun motto Plus est en vous (There is more in you) and they are constantly faced with new challenges which they rise willingly and with a real sense of purpose. There are not many children of that age who can treasure such experiences such as sailing on an 80 foot sail training vessel, spending a week camping at the most northerly part of the Scottish Highlands, playing sport at a highly competitive level and at the same time making lifelong lasting friendships.

Thank the school

Parents and pupils often have cause to acknowledge the help and support they have received from their schools, for example in helping in the choice of further education or careers. "Say thank you" allows you to send a quick note of appreciation to the school in general or to an individual teacher.

This is a thank you to your school, teacher or careers adviser who helped you to get where you are now.

Please fill in the fields below, which we will transform into a letter of thanks from you to them.

Leave blank if you want to thank the school as a whole

What The Good Schools Guide says

Head of the junior school

Mr Robert McVean, BSc (40s), taught science at Aberlour House (as the junior school is called) from 2000, became head in 2003. Educated at Hurstpierpoint College, he read environmental biology at Swansea, thence five years in the state sector, followed by Edinburgh Academy. Married to Laura (bubbly and fun; she helps with SEN), two children in the school (‘all been huge fun, wouldn’t have changed a thing’). Looking down from our common room eyrie at children returning from games, this editor commented that a certain young man looked a tad sad – he was on his own, munching a fairy cake – ‘he gets overwrought,' was the instant reply, 'he is just a little ADHD'. School wanted to remove this last comment, we prefer it remain to show just how...
