What the school says...
The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School is based on a rural, 100-acre site in leafy Elstree, Hertfordshire, whilst being within easy reach of London and nearby to junctions on the M1 and M25. The School believes it has the largest coach network of any school in the UK, allowing pupils from far and wide to benefit from a Haberdashers’ education. This coach service is shared with our neighbouring Girls’ School. Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Schools offer the best of single-sex education in a unique co-educational environment. From September 2021, every Sixth Former will be taught at least one subject in a mixed-gender class.
Haberdashers’ was named The Sunday Times Independent School of the Year 2017 and prides itself on ‘Nurturing Excellence’. The School, for boys aged between 5 and 18 years old, offers an energetic and enthusiastic learning environment for inquisitive boys in a simply outstanding environment, with truly exceptional facilities.

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Headmaster
Since September 2018, Gus Lock MA Oxon (late 30s), previously head of Warwick School. Educated here at Habs', he read ancient and modern history at Oxford. First teaching post was at The Manchester Grammar School, thence to Merchant Taylors’ School in Northwood, where he became head of middle school and met and married Alison (a French and Italian teacher). Mr Lock then moved to Warwick School, where he served as deputy head before taking on the headship. Gus and Alison have three young children.
Entrance
Main intake is at 11 from a wide range of prep and state schools. School sets its own exams in English, maths and reasoning. About 600 apply for 100 places (in addition to those coming up from the prep school); 300 recalled for interview, which takes place in groups and individually....

Special Education Needs
The curriculum provides equality of access and opportunity for all our students to make progress. For those few boys with additional educational needs (e.g.dyslexia, dyspraxia), monitoring and support is co-ordinated by the school's learning support team who work in close collaboration with the House system and academic departments. Two members of the learning support team hold specialist qualifications in specific learning difficulties.
