What The Good Schools Guide says..
Academically, parents told us it feels low key yet gets these girls more than ready for senior school. ‘You can feel slightly worried about whether they’re keeping up with the girls coming in from the outside but they’re really on it – it’s just done without the pressure of other local preps,’ said one parent. STEAM is big. Pupils parachute eggs off the upper floors, post pringles to themselves to test their protective packaging and extract and use natural beetroot dye. School does lots of work with Science Oxford and draws on its parent body. Thematic learning is central too – during our visit...

Head
Since 2014, Jane Crouch BA, MA (50s). Previously head of Dame Bradbury’s School, Saffron Walden and before that head of the junior section of Ashford School, Kent and deputy head of Great Walstead, West Sussex. Studied French and geography at Keele. Her masters, in educational management and administration, is from the University of London. An ISI school inspector, she also sits on the GSA education committee.
Everything you’d want in a prep head – jovial, warm, utterly at ease with adults, really listens (on their level) to children and as savvy as they come when it comes to the latest evidence-based teaching. In addition to all the usual school leadership duties, she somehow seems to find time to read to the early years, do ‘mop up’ teaching of RE to years...

Special Education Needs
There is an experienced Learning Enrichment department offering specialist tuition tailored to the pupil's specific needs. These are identified early through assessment, consultation with parents and discussion with teachers. The support is delivered within the context of the broader curriculum and may be classroom based or through individual or small group tuition. Support is offered at both ends of the spectrum, for pupils with mild learning difficulties and those who are gifted and talented in any area. The approach is multi-sensory and includes ICT software where appropriate. It is available across all year groups of the school, delivered flexibly in the following ways: - A one off session for a specific skill - A short term boost for a skill or area of learning - Ongoing support, which is required by a minority of pupils. These pupils have an Individual Education Plan, showing their targets and recommended strategies for the classroom, tutor and home. The Learning Enrichment team works closely with all teachers and with parents and in partnership with the pupil, whose progress is monitored closely. 10-09
