What the school says...
Heath House Preparatory School: Nurturing Potential, Inspiring Success
Situated in Blackheath Village, London, Heath House Preparatory School is a family-run institution dedicated to nurturing young minds since 1993. Despite our small size, we are mighty in our achievements, offering a tight-knit, supportive community where children aged 3 to 11 thrive both academically and personally.
Academic Excellence
Our pupils consistently excel in the 11+ exams, gaining entry to leading independent and grammar schools. This success is rooted in our exceptional teaching and personalised education plans. Each child receives an Individual Education Plan (IEP) at the start of each term, refreshed weekly to address specific needs. With small class sizes and a teacher-to-pupil ratio of 1:18 for older children and 2:18 for younger ones, we ensure that every child gets the attention and support they need to succeed, with a particular focus on instilling a love for reading from the age of 3 in the Kindergarten class.
Holistic Development
Our curriculum is broad and balanced, covering traditional subjects like English, Maths, Science, as well as French, Mandarin, Spanish, Classics, Art, History, Geography, Music, Drama, and Physical Education. We blend modern educational practices with traditional values, preparing children for both academic success and life’s broader challenges and opportunities.
High Ethical Standards
We emphasise the importance of good manners, physical fitness, independence, and personal organisation. Our multicultural environment promotes respect and understanding among pupils from diverse backgrounds. Children work towards eight core school values, earning gold stars for demonstrating these principles: Respect, Kindness, Individual Confidence, Resilience & Grit, Sportsmanship, Good Manners, Responsibility and Tolerance.
This focus on ethical values helps our pupils develop into responsible, well-rounded individuals with a robust moral compass.
Engaging Extracurricular Activities
Heath House offers a wide range of extracurricular activities to enrich our students' educational experience. From daily playtime on the heath to school trips to Scotland, PGL and Switzerland, our students enjoy diverse opportunities to explore and grow. Annual events such as the Summer Production at Greenwich Theatre, the Gym and Dance Display at Blackheath Halls, and Young Voices at the O2 Arena foster confidence, teamwork, leadership, and resilience. Additionally, each class performs two mini-plays per academic year based on the school values, presented to their parents.
Community and Parental Involvement
We believe that a strong partnership between teachers and parents is key to a child’s success. We maintain open communication through regular meetings, reports, and events. Parents are actively involved in school life, contributing to a supportive community. Events like Friends of Heath House, school fairs and family-oriented activities throughout the academic year strengthen these bonds.
School Buildings
Our school is set over three buildings, each accommodating the 3 different key stages of primary education. Early Years at Tranquil Hall in Tranquil Passage, Key Stage 1 at Wemyss Road and Key Stage 2 at The Old Library in Blackheath Grove, provide an inspiring setting for learning. Located in picturesque Blackheath Village, our school offers an ideal environment for both academic and extracurricular activities. Using local resources such as the Heath, Greenwich museums and galleries, we make learning dynamic and engaging. ...Read more
